How to Protect Works Trucks Against Theft

Want to protect your work vehicle and keep it from becoming a statistic? Follow these recommendations to help keep thieves away from your investment.

Don't Be Complacent

"Auto thefts saw a dramatic increase in 2020 versus 2019 in part due to the pandemic, an economic downturn, law enforcement realignment, depleted social and schooling programs, and, in still too many cases, owner complacency," said David Glawe, president and CEO of the NICB.

Don't take your truck's safety for granted. Use common sense measures to protect your vehicles.

  • Park your truck in a well-lit area
  • Lock your doors and remove your keys from the ignition
  • Don't leave valuables in plain sight

Make Theft Harder

Don't be an easy mark for thieves and criminals. Outfit your commercial vehicles with theft-deterrent measures such as:

  • Audible alarms
  • Steering column collars
  • Steering wheel/brake pedal lock
  • Brake locks
  • Wheel locks
  • Theft-deterrent decals
  • Identification markers in or on vehicle
  • VIN etching
  • Micro dot marking

Utilize Smart Devices

Technology is making everything easier in our lives, including protecting our vehicles. Smart devices can help immobilize your truck and prevent hotwiring while tracking devices can help authorities locate your vehicle if the worst does happen. Explore smart immobilizing and tracking devices such as:

  • Smart keys
  • GPS tracking devices
  • Fuse cut-offs
  • Starter, ignition, and fuel pump disablers
  • Kill switches
  • Wireless ignition authentication
